The main question is can we have some mechanism to run “scripts” on the screen processor, this does not need to be a complicated script processing, just normal commands as if they had arrived from the host on the serial port. So, for example, if a user presses a button it normally sends a command to the host to notify this, instead of this we would need to say “don’t send command to host, run the commands in a file, perhaps with parameter values from a select set of widgets”. We could put up a dialog box with choices and have an OK button, the OK button would send the parameter value of the choice and have this be available in the script.
The details of the command don’t matter now, but this mechanism could be used for many things.
For example a dialog box with a slider to set the screen brightness, this could be done simply without the host if such a mechanism existed.
